H-1B & L-1 Extensions: Who Gets Hit by the Fee Hike?

From September 9, 2026, certain U.S. employers will have to pay the existing $4,000 H-1B and $4,500 L-1 9/11 Biometric Fee even on extension-of-status petitions. But it doesn’t apply to everyone. The rule targets employers with 50 or more U.S. employees where over 50% are in H-1B or L-1 status.
